Sunday Sandbox: Feats for a Cause

Syrian Desert, Outside of Palmyra

Last week’s idea:

Have you ever heard of Stump Trivia? They’re the guys that organize trivia nights at bars across America. Questions range from literature and politics to sports and movies, and trust me, if you have never played trivia in a bar, you are missing out. It’s good clean fun. Why not seek out cities around the world that don’t have a large trivia culture and adapt the questions to the local bar goers? To those living outside of the U.S. – what do you think?

This week’s idea:

Start a nonprofit organization and put together athletic feats that involve thousands of people. Have entrants create small teams in a Relay For Life fashion, raising money and pledging to give to a specific to-be-determined cause. The first event could be a coast to coast walk/run. Create wild and entertaining infographics that show how many people it will take to complete the course, how much money could be raised, etc. Obviously linking all the teams and getting enough support to justify the event in the first place will prove difficult. If anything, it would be an incredible experiment in viral marketing, crowd-sourcing and logistics :)

Hello everyone. Another week goes by, and on this Sunday night, my head is cradled between my hands. How did I manage to go another week without posting my Nepal update? Or anything else for that matter. Somebody hasn’t been practicing what they preach.

Bloggers…how do you do it? How do all of you stay so finely up-to-date with quality posts? As the year gives way to 2010, I’m finding myself increasingly scatterbrained. Increasingly unfocused and unorganized. Any tips to help turn me around?

  1. I am not the best for it as I tend to get distracted by going traveling but I find the most motivating thing for me is that I write my posts as much for myself as I do for my readers.

I am useless at journaling and so I use my blog as a dynamic journal of my life.

    Just a thought.

@Jonny: Thanks for your thoughts-youv’e been rocking these Sunday Sandbox comments, and I appreciate it! You’re right. This blog was created for myself, and for myself I shall write. I’d like to stick to a more consistent schedule, but it’s a much slower process than I originally intended.

  2. You know what Allan, you are getting the wrong impression. Quality post is a struggle we deal with at every moment. You just have to be accustomed of it. In any endeavors of success, hard work and discouragement plays an important part. Just be sure you don’t fall for the beckoning of giving-up. :-)

  3. Hey Alan, I haven’t commented before on your site but I definitely enjoy reading what you write. I’ve found that the ‘brilliant ideas’ that I struggle for days to transform into ‘quality’ posts are almost always less well-received than the posts I whip out in 30 minutes. You just can’t force it. If you don’t feel like writing anything, don’t write and walk away. Wait until something motivates you to create a post, whether it be three days from now or three weeks. You need to make sure you enjoy having your blog, so take it slow and you’ll find your groove.
