Alan, I found this to be very informative. I think I would love a quiet ride back to nap, but fear I would end up in a shared taxi with chatter-boxes. I'll probably end up following suit and do what you did to commute between the two cities, got both visas already. Great blog post!

@Zeina: Ooh, I can't even imagine what that experience must have been like. Good to know that people were on your side though! I was happy to get in and out as quick as possible :)

I waited those 8 hours at the border! We were students from the American Univ. of Beirut just driving through Syria to get to Jordan! Alas, when my Visa finally came through, our driver came running with my passport in hand shouting, "Ijit! Ijit!" (It came! It came!) My classmates all hugged me and shouted Congratulations. A few strangers even looked at me and said, "Mabrouk!" It was quite a surreal moment after such a long wait!

Interesting post. The Al Hariri Mosque is stunning. It's too bad people can't put their differences aside to see the beauty in everything and draw their own conclusions. Kudos to your for getting in and out in under 10 minutes. If you have to wait, it sucks.

Great post! I love how i have your feed going to my email. Goes right to my phone. I read through this while waiting in line for coffee (Tim hortons, not dunkin donuts) - But I had a good laugh. I would love to be in some random country to see a piece of home. I heard that Tim Hortons has a store in Afghanistan for the Canadian Soldiers. Great post!
