About
With all the amazing and remarkable websites on the Internet superhighway, you chanced upon my virtual home. Welcome and thanks for stopping by! I hope this message finds you well.
BACKGROUND
Hello there! My name is Alan Perlman. Over the last couple of years, I’ve traveled to more than 60 countries as an international cost-of-living analyst, looking for items like women’s underwear, iodized salt and motor oil. I grew up in Nashville, Tennessee and started writing in 2006 when I spent a semester abroad in Kathmandu. From there, I went back to school and finished a degree in International Studies, capping off my final semester by researching urban farming initiatives around the world. Today, I am based in Boston, weathering its winters and enjoying all that the northeast has to offer. Some of my other interests include mountaineering, cooking, and the occasional dance party.
CURRENT PROJECTS
Cost-of-Living Analyst. I work for a consulting company that facilitates global mobility for large, international organizations. As a cost-of-living analyst, I meet with real estate agents and visit supermarkets, pharmacies, car dealerships, etc. to research expatriate costs and considerations in different cities around the world.
Flightster. I am a contributing writer at Flightster, a travel blog with a small and eclectic staff. The company is developing a full service flight-booking engine, but in the meantime, they are using social media to generate a buzz in the travel community. Excited to be working with them.
The Curry Project. I’m always in the mood for a heaping plate of curry. Three friends and I put together a website to chronicle our experiences eating Indian food around the world. We attempt to track down the world’s wackiest and most remote Indian restaurants with bona fide reviews and high-quality imagery.
Bucket List. What’s a goal-setting website without a good bucket list? I’ve put together a list of 38 challenges that I plan on completing over the next several years, from easy tasks like “drink Yerba maté” or “bake my own bread” to harder tasks like, “visit North Korea” and “climb Mt. McKinley. As each challenge gets knocked off, I’ll post a video talking about the goal.
